Shabbat Dinner Crowd

A Flash Mob Shabbat Dinner Experience
info@shabbatdinnercrowd.com

Welcome to a community of folks who share Shabbat dinners - a flash mob Shabbat dinner experience. We're a group that likes to "throw in" and share Shabbat dinners with others. Someone volunteers a location and others supply the food. The dinner is casual -- jeans, whatever. Paper plates are fine. Just come and enjoy. Dinners can be meat, dairy, or vegetarian. Please let everyone know what the kashrut status of the meal is. Keep it casual!

The way this works is simple -- if you can host, post a note to the e-mail list for your community. If you can attend, then reply to the dinner post so everyone knows. Let's keep this rolling by having someone host every week!

If you are going to a dinner, here are the rules:

  1. Dress code is casual. Jeans are recommended :-)
  2. Dinners start at 7:30 PM.
  3. Bring two dishes to share -- an entree and a side -- at least enough to feed your family plus a couple of other folks
  4. Desserts are left to the imagination of the attendees. If you have a dessert you'd like to share, bring it.
  5. Please respond to the entire list to indicate that you are going to attend.
  6. Most important - come over and have a good time!

We need people to host! Please volunteer to host a dinner at your house by posting a note to the appropriate list below. Here's what you need to know:

  1. The host supplies paper goods, challah, wine, and other drinks.
  2. The host does not coordinate dishes with the attendees -- that's why everyone is asked to bring an entree and a side.
  3. The host is not required to provide an entree or side dish -- that's why everyone is asked to bring extra.
  4. If you keep kosher, please let everyone know what the rules are for bringing food into your house (e.g. MEAT, DAIRY or PAREVE for the meal, disposable dishes for cooked items, etc.)
  5. Remember that you are not hosting a dinner party -- you aren't expected to put out place settings or anything -- just set everything out and let everyone eat buffet style. Keep it informal!
  6. Have fun!

Here are a couple of rules for the shabbatdinner list:

  1. Post if you are going to host. Please!
  2. Post if you are going to attend. Also please!
  3. Post if you have a question about the community or the upcoming dinner (others may have the same question)

It is not necessary to post regrets if you are unable to attend. (Feel free to send a note to the host that week if you want.) Please post if you are planning attend a dinner and let the host know how many to expect. Otherwise, let's keep the posts to a minimum so we don't make too much noise in people's inboxes.
